Alistair Greenwood: What Could the Future of Roles Look Like?

What could the future of roles look like? I’ve given this a lot of thought.

I recently put out 1 hiring post on LinkedIn for OmniforceAI. One hiring post. 204,000 impressions. Over 5,500 applicants…

I think there is an interesting phenomenon occurring, with releases like Claude Code and Codex bringing the cost of building down to almost zero I am starting to believe we are going to see a whole new wave of entrepreneurship. To lay the groundwork for this prediction:

Students are coming out of university and can’t land jobs, largely due to the lower skilled ‘sandbox’ style jobs being automated rapidly, why spend a load of company resource training a graduate when the job can be done for a fraction of the cost by AI. I heard a crazy stat the other day, for every graduate role there is now on average 160 applicants, a 1/160 chance! I’ve seen this first hand. The job market out there is brutal.

So if you’re in your early 20s you’ve applied to 60+ jobs with 0 success, you turn to the only option, creating something for yourself.

So if everyone’s starting businesses with no experience of what typical roles look like and AI being in the room the whole time, what could the future of roles actually look like?

I want to give huge credits to Boris Cherny for this next part, as the creator of Claude Code you would like to think he knows a thing or two and he recently mapped out the 5 archetypes he’s seeing within Claude currently:

  1. Prototyper: comes up with brand new ideas; churns out many ideas, most of which don’t ship
  2. Builder: quickly turns a prototype/idea into production-grade product/infra
  3. Sweeper: cleans up the UI, simplifies the code and system, unships, optimizes performance
  4. Grower: takes a product that has been built and iterates on it to improve Product-Market Fit
  5. Maintainer: owns a mature system to make it secure, reliable, fast, and efficient as it scales

After giving this a lot of thought, I keep coming back to these archetypes. So much so, it’s how I am designing the future of OmniforceAI, just to be clear I think one person can hold multiple roles here, but building augmented team (AI + Human) pods that cover these 5 archetypes is where we are placing our chips.

So, if you are in your 20s looking at a bleak job market, look around you, find these archetypes to join your pod, pick a problem to solve and get going!
